Diablo 4 players can finally recycle unwanted Mythic Unique items again.
Patch 3.1.2 fixed a bug that prevented Mythics from being processed through the recycling system, leaving some of Sanctuary’s rarest items trapped in an awkward state between priceless treasure and extremely expensive stash decoration.
The fix is available across all platforms.
Mythic Unique Recycling Was Broken
Before the patch, players could encounter situations where Mythic Unique items simply could not be recycled.
That was particularly frustrating during Season of Death Awakening, where Mythic crafting and item conversion play a larger role in character progression.
An unwanted Mythic should still have value.
A poor roll, unsuitable item or duplicate may not improve the current build, but recycling it can feed materials back into the wider crafting system.
Instead, affected items were taking up inventory space while refusing to participate in the economy.
Patch 3.1.2 Fixes The Problem
Blizzard’s official patch notes contain a simple but important line:
Mythic Unique items can now be recycled correctly.
The update does not introduce a new reward structure or increase the value of recycled Mythics.
It restores the system’s intended functionality.
That means players with unusable Mythics should once again be able to turn them into something more practical instead of keeping them as evidence that luck technically happened.
The Cube Recipe Also Has A New Name
Patch 3.1.2 also renamed the Horadric Cube’s Mythic recipe from “Upgrade” to “Craft.”
Blizzard explains that the new name better matches the recipe’s actual behaviour.
The distinction matters because the recipe creates a new Mythic item rather than simply increasing the power of the original item.
Calling it an upgrade suggested the item itself was being improved.
Calling it crafting is less glamorous, but considerably more honest.
Why Recycling Mythics Matters
Mythic Uniques are among Diablo 4’s rarest and most valuable drops.
That does not make every Mythic useful to every character.
A build may already own the required item, receive the wrong equipment slot or find a Mythic that offers no meaningful improvement.
Recycling gives those items a second purpose.
It allows bad luck wearing premium armour to become materials for another attempt.
Check Your Stash After Updating
Players who stored Mythics because recycling failed should try the system again after installing Patch 3.1.2.
Before destroying anything, make sure the item is not being used by another build and does not contain modifications worth preserving.
Diablo 4 now allows greater customisation of Unique and Mythic items, making an apparently weak drop potentially useful after additional investment.
Recycling should be the final decision, not the first button pressed during an aggressive stash-cleaning session.
A Small Fix With Expensive Consequences
This is not the largest change in Patch 3.1.2.
It may still be one of the most valuable for players carrying duplicate or unwanted Mythics.
The rarest rubbish in Sanctuary can finally enter the correct container.
