Diablo 4’s Latest Hotfix Finally Guarantees A Mythic Drop On Torment XII

Diablo 4 has quietly made one of Season 14’s most valuable activities considerably less insulting.

Blizzard’s July 21 server hotfix increases the Mythic drop chance from Mythic Tribute of Armaments runs in the Kurast Undercity.

On Torment X, the chance has been “greatly increased.”

On Torment XII, the reward is now guaranteed.

Yes, guaranteed.

You can finally spend an exceptionally rare Mythic Tribute without wondering whether the Undercity chest will respond with three ordinary items and a polite reminder that gambling builds character.

Torment XII Now Guarantees A Mythic Item

The headline change is simple.

Using a Mythic Tribute of Armaments in the Kurast Undercity on Torment XII now guarantees a Mythic item.

Blizzard has not provided a precise percentage for Torment X, describing the chance only as greatly increased.

That means Torment X remains a gamble, but apparently a much less cruel one.

Torment XII is now the obvious destination for players who can complete the activity reliably.

The Tribute itself is still rare, and reaching Torment XII does not happen by accident. But once the player has both pieces in place, the reward is no longer left entirely to chance.

For the first time, the word “Mythic” on the Tribute describes the reward rather than the scale of the disappointment.

This Changes How Players Should Use Mythic Tributes

Before this hotfix, using a Mythic Tribute could feel unnecessarily risky.

The player had already obtained a rare consumable, entered a time-limited Undercity run and completed the activity at a high difficulty.

Even then, the final chest could fail to produce a Mythic item.

That created a strange situation where one of the game’s rarest Tributes did not reliably deliver the item category printed directly on it.

After the hotfix, players capable of farming Torment XII should avoid spending Mythic Tributes on lower difficulties unless they have a specific reason to do so.

The difference between a greatly increased chance and a guaranteed result is enormous when the entry item itself is difficult to replace.

One option offers improved odds.

The other offers an actual product.

Blizzard Previously Removed A Similar Guarantee

The timing is particularly interesting because Blizzard previously fixed an issue where Mythic Tribute of Armaments runs incorrectly granted guaranteed Mythic rewards at high Torment levels.

That earlier behaviour was treated as a bug.

Now the guarantee has returned deliberately at Torment XII.

This does not necessarily mean Blizzard reversed the old fix by accident.

The more likely explanation is that the original guaranteed behaviour was not properly balanced or intentionally tied to a specific difficulty.

The July 21 hotfix formalises the reward structure: Torment X receives a much better chance, while Torment XII receives the guarantee.

In other words, Blizzard removed the accidental version, considered the player feedback and eventually brought it back wearing official trousers.

The Change Makes Torment XII More Valuable

High Torment levels need rewards that justify the additional difficulty.

Enemies take longer to kill, mistakes are more expensive and builds need considerably more investment.

If the reward remains almost identical to a lower difficulty, the rational choice is often to farm the easier version faster.

A guaranteed Mythic changes that calculation.

Players now have a clear reason to push Mythic Tribute runs into Torment XII rather than settling for the safer Torment X option.

The reward is not merely a slightly larger pile of materials or another percentage hidden somewhere inside a tooltip.

It is the difference between possibly receiving a Mythic and definitely receiving one.

That is the kind of endgame scaling players can understand without consulting a spreadsheet, a community calculator and three YouTube thumbnails featuring shocked faces.

The Tribute Is Still The Real Bottleneck

The hotfix does not turn the Undercity into an unlimited Mythic vending machine.

Players still need a Mythic Tribute of Armaments.

Those Tributes remain rare enough that many players will not have a large stack waiting in storage.

The guarantee improves the value of each Tribute, but it does not necessarily solve complaints about how frequently the Tribute itself appears.

That distinction matters.

A guaranteed reward is excellent when the player can enter the activity.

It provides considerably less comfort to someone who has not seen the required Tribute drop in the first place.

Still, rare access combined with a guaranteed reward is healthier than rare access combined with another lottery.

Superior Lair Keys Were Also Added To Glints Of Hope

The same hotfix adds Superior Lair Keys to the final repeatable Glints of Hope cache.

This gives players another reason to continue completing the associated progression after reaching the repeatable reward stage.

Superior Lair Keys provide access to higher-value Lair content, so adding them to a repeatable cache strengthens another part of the seasonal farming loop.

It is the less dramatic half of the hotfix, but potentially the more consistent benefit for players who do not have Mythic Tributes available.

A guaranteed Mythic makes the headline.

A steady supply of useful keys is the sort of change players may actually interact with more often.

Players Were Already Complaining About Empty Runs

The hotfix arrives after players reported completing consecutive Kurast Undercity runs with Mythic Tributes and receiving no Mythic items.

That frustration was predictable.

The Tribute name creates a very clear expectation, and the rarity of the consumable makes failure feel worse than an ordinary bad drop.

Randomness is central to Diablo, but not every layer needs another random check.

The player already needs the Tribute to drop.

They already need a build capable of clearing the Undercity at the chosen difficulty.

They already need to complete the run successfully.

Asking the reward chest to perform one final coin flip was less “exciting loot hunt” and more “administrative cruelty.”

Torment X Is Now The Safer Compromise

Not every player holding a Mythic Tribute will be ready for Torment XII.

For those players, the greatly increased Torment X chance may be the more realistic option.

A failed Torment XII run produces no guaranteed Mythic because it produces no completed reward at all.

Players should therefore avoid pushing the highest difficulty purely because the word guaranteed looks attractive.

The correct difficulty is the highest one the build can complete consistently.

If Torment XII is comfortable, use it.

If Torment XII turns every elite pack into a labour dispute, Torment X may still offer the better practical return.

A high probability completed quickly can outperform a guarantee trapped behind repeated failure.

The Guaranteed Drop Does Not Guarantee A Useful Drop

The hotfix guarantees a Mythic item.

It does not guarantee the Mythic item your build needs.

Players can still receive duplicates, unwanted pieces or an item that belongs to an entirely different setup.

That is where Resplendent Sparks and the broader Mythic crafting system remain important.

An unwanted Mythic can still be salvaged into progress toward another item, even if Season 14’s crafted-Mythic restrictions have made that process more complicated.

You can read more about the community proposal to give those Sparks another purpose in our coverage of Diablo 4’s current Mythic economy.

The chest now promises a Mythic.

It does not promise that the Mythic will respect your build planner.

This Is What High-Difficulty Rewards Should Look Like

Diablo 4’s endgame has often struggled to make higher difficulty feel meaningfully more rewarding.

More health and more incoming damage are easy to add.

Rewards that genuinely change player behaviour are harder.

This hotfix gets the basic structure right.

Torment X receives significantly improved odds.

Torment XII receives certainty.

The reward becomes stronger as the difficulty increases, and the difference is clear enough that players can make an informed choice.

There will still be arguments about Tribute rarity, Mythic quality and whether one guaranteed item is enough.

There are always more demons hiding behind the first demon.

But spending a Mythic Tribute on Torment XII now does exactly what most players reasonably expected it to do from the beginning.

It drops a Mythic.

Sometimes the revolution is simply receiving the item written on the ticket.
