[EU] Banwave stats: Paragon levels

So after compiling EU leaderboard stats a couple of weeks ago I decided to take a look at paragon distribution of banned vs not banned players. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1neYXz0zXCNTkM1eE5iT1BfSVU/view?usp=sharing

Here's the distribution of plvl (at the moment of rift completion) among top500 spots in each solo leaderboard

Here's one for top100 spots: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1neYXz0zXCNOHJqczBnLVBKZ1U/view?usp=sharing

Ofc there's an indication bias because players that grind paragon like crazy are also more likely to bot than those that don't. And there's sampling bias because those players are more likely to attract Blizzard's attention.

For many classes, there's a clear divide between 75% percentile of non-banned players and 25% percentile of banned ones. This makes sense for Wizard/Barb as they also seem most paragon-dependent for GR pushing. DH has a really big variance among plevels of banned players. WD in top100 has surprisingly small difference in plvl between banned/non-banned.

Here's the distribution of ranks among top500 spots:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1neYXz0zXCNMVBKSTZKcnZfalE/view?usp=sharing

And here's one for top100: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1neYXz0zXCNeTREQjdUVVdpQUk/view?usp=sharing

Monks and Wizards seem to experience the most top-centric bans (also Monks have 3 outlier bans very close to 500s). WD in top100 are the only class for which median rank among banned players is lower than the median rank of non-banned players.

Here's some numeric stats over banned players:

The most banned class are Wizards (surprise, surprise!), the least ones are Monks and Barbs. Overall, 155 spots out of 3000 (6 boards, 500 spots) are banned, which is 5%. Of the top100, that's 71 spot out of 600, which is 11.8%.

Any feedback/suggestions for further analysis are welcome :)

EDIT: added rank graphs as well.

Some Superb Diablo III Item Sets

Diablo III game-play is all about item sets. Item sets are great because their individual pieces are interesting enough as they are, but the more of them a player adds, the more powerful the combination will be, thus, far beyond just pretty visuals and great stats, item sets are great drivers of action too, as they spur players on to continue searching for the next item in the set and to eventually complete it. Few things are more rewarding and satisfying in the game than the completion of one of the sets we're about to discuss below.

The first one is the Jade Harvester, which turns a Witch Doctor into a lean-mean damage-dishing machine, who is as great at harvesting mobs as he is with pets. The MO here is to load up the enemy with a bunch of damage-over-time spells, then to gather them up and use Soul Harvest on them. The Soul Harvest will deal 150 seconds worth of damage-over time instantly, and thus the Witch Doctor becomes a one-hit killer. Another spell which works well for damage with this set is Haunt which can be stacked for instant damage.

The Monkey King's Garb is an interesting set for Monks: it too is focused on dealing massive amounts of damage while increasing survivability. Sweeping Wind is what goes best with this set, as it will hand out the most damage while also protecting the player, by absorbing damage while active. The Monkey King's Garb should be combined with other legendaries for the best effect. These legendaries should be ones that boost Tempest Rush or Wave of Light, which will end up consuming a stack of Sweeping Wind to increase damage output by a surreal 1,500%.

The Might of the Earth set is a great addition to a Barbarian character, because it allows it to jump around, causing earthquakes upon landing. Other than being fun and looking great, the effects of the set include an 800% damage increase on earthquakes, upon other goodies. Avalanche, Ground Stomp, Leap, Seismic Slam and Ancient Spear are subject to the same 800% increase.

The Shadow's Mantle set carries an entirely different and altogether much greater significance than all the above-covered ones: it allows the very concept of the melee Demon Hunter to exist, thus, essentially allowing a class to do something it was never really supposed to. While this set is equipped by a Demon Hunter, every melee weapon wielded will have its damage increased by 600%. In addition to that, Impale will deal 40,000% of weapon damage to the first enemy hit.

[Diablo 2] Patch 1.14 drew in many first time players (or inexperienced ones). This got me thinking

... The tooltips in D2 can often be misleading or unclear. What are some of you veterans' favorite tips regarding game mechanics that are not often understood by new players?

For example: one that I just found out about has to do with "X% damage taken goes to mana" affix on gear.

I was under the impression that when you took damage, X% would be subtracted from your mana pool instead of life.THIS IS INCORRECT

What it actually does is this - you take the same damage you normally would, but that percentage of it is ADDED to your mana!

This is a complete game changer for me because I just got Tal Rasha's belt that gives 37%. No more chugging shit tons of potions and being mana starved! I avoided this affix on gear until this point. Such a good thing to know.

Anyway, what are some of your favorite clarifications?

Why isn't Imperius kicked out of the council yet?

The council has every right and reason to throw him off of heaven. I mean, all of the things he did only made things worse:

He accidentally--like the idiot he is--destroyed the stone that kept the unity of the angels together.

He tries to kill the heroic nephalem out of jealousy, which in turn almost made things worse.

He is a smug douche who is not only hated by us, but also by the other archangels themselves.

He let Diablo kick his ass in act IV, giving Diablo the confidence and pride he needed.

He ruins the arrival of the "GLORIOUS!" message by swooping in before you get it.

He tried to kill Tyrael, the heroic reason why the mortal realm is still A-Okay.

Lastly, he is delaying the arrival of the next Diablo 3 expansion T_T

Why is he not kicked out yet?

Push Your Diablo III Character to Level 70 in 33 Seconds

Leveling up fast has always been possible in Diablo III, especially after the introduction of Paragon levels and Seasons, but it's still impressive what some people can do in this respect when they put their minds to it and when they take a number of preparatory measures: one person, who has a video of the feat posted on YouTube (link to video) , has managed to push a character to level 70, which is the non-paragon level cap, in around half a minute.

Mind you, this is obviously not the best way to experience the game, but for those who already have several level 70 characters, it can be a fun little experiment to try.

The first thing to do is to set the stage of the experiment, and that should be a cow rift, because that's where better items, more gold and more XP are dropped. Now these levels aren't that frequent, but they are much easier to come by following the latest patch of the game. Once the cow rift is found, all the bounties have to be farmed on Torment X difficulty, and they have to be dropped on the ground.

Gold-to-XP bracers are obviously a must: the Custerian Wristguards have to be combined with Kanai's Cube (for the legendary affix) so all the gold gets turned into XP. The Gem of Ease is also part of the recipe (its level 25 version that is) as it increases XP production and it reduces the level requirement for every item to 1. This opens up to way to other items which will increase XP production as well: Leoric's Signet and Leoric's Crown socketed with a red gem is also an option here.

The last (and perhaps most important) ingredient of the turbo-leveling concoction is obviously a party with monster characters, so at the end of the day, it all comes down to good-old teamwork, the way Diablo III always wanted it to be.

Got my green wings via solo mastering every dungeon, my thoughts

I got a lot of interest / questions from clanmates so figured I'd write it all down here too :)

First off, before taking on this endeavour I'd only played Crusader, Monk and Wizard. Wizard new for Season 5. In order of difficulty for each classes dungeons, I'd line them up like this from easiest to hardest:
  1. Demon Hunter, easiest
  2. Witch Doctor
  3. Wizard
  4. Crusader
  5. Barbarian
  6. Monk, Hardest

Uliana

The hardest dungeon by far was the monk's Uliana set dungeon. The map is just too large, the enemies are too few and too spread out, they either don't follow you at all or are too slow, and the fire damage mechanic is ridiculous. You can skip worrying about fire damage with a star of azkaranth amulet, though nothing will help you with the density issue. Blizzard could do a number of things to fix this dungeon's insane difficulty relative to the others:
  • Shrink the map, keep the same amount of monsters thus increasing density
  • Make the spawn locations static
  • Change the monster types to something else. Maybe those frogs / burrowing things, or accursed. Normally annoying enemies that just stick to you like glue and you can't lose them
  • Lower the number of required monsters - raise the required explosions to compensate. Maybe 15, 5 times instead of 21, 3 times.

Wastes

Definitely the second hardest, due to the ridiculous physical damage objective. Who's great idea was it to have you use a melee attack on monsters you must stack around you, and you cannot get hit - not once, ever, for the entire dungeon? I finally got around this by using ignore pain with the rune that knocks / stuns enemies, sprint with its similar knockback rune, and Madawc's sorrow in the kanai cube - a mighty weapon that stuns enemies the first time you hit them. This let me get in, stomp, rend and get out quickly. Even with all this, I still randomly failed through what felt like no fault of my own. Armaddons being in this dungeon is just the final cruel cherry on top for whatever manic game designer cooked this thing up.

Other problem dungeons

Rolands (Crusader) - It's so huge, and there are so many monsters. Those little tiny bastards who run away from you and are nearly the same colour as the background.

Unhallowed Essence - Another luck-based one, hoping for favourable spawns to multishot big groups.

Jade Harvester - Those invisible snakes though.

Helltooth - Just because the mob damaged seemed quite high, I had to stack lots of defense and still had trouble surviving.

Raiment (Dashing strike set) - The countdown to get to the end of the dungeon would often instantly end for me, I have no idea why. It always happened while fighting. Instead I would just dash to the gold chest at the end to get it over with, and then fight my way back.

Delsere's magnum opus - This was more just a struggle of trying to balance defense and damage. All the wizard dungeons benefit from an aether walker. The folly bracer with a twister in the right place makes bubbling enemies easy. Get the reflecting done quickly, and focus down elites immediately if you can.

General Tips

I found the wreath of lightning gem useful for not just the movement speed boost when procced but also because it ticks and adds HP bars to everything it touches. This made the rolands dungeon much easier - those little shits are much harder to miss as they run away into the distance with a HP bar above them.

Lowering your damage for many of the dungeons helps. Inna's for example went much more smoothly once I had more time to gather up enough enemies close to me without them dying before activating my mystic allies. Part of mastering these dungeons was finding out the right balance of damage.

Set Dungeons

I see some people moaning, calling them a shit idea. And to be honest, I had that impression when I saw their announcement and felt "forced" to complete one at the start of the season to get the stash tab. Now I've done them however, I've changed my tune. Only 2 of them make me think "thank god I never have to do that again", them being Uliana's and Wastes.

Set dungeons have made me try three new classes that I never would have otherwise, and multiple playstyles within those classes. I now have a regular farming DH, and a leapquake barb I take into GRs with friends. Overall I like the idea, though it definitely needs some tuning.

One last piece of advice - don't be a twat and try to solo all of these like I did. Some are pretty solo-friendly like Arachyr's, though others become much easier when you have someone cleaning up stragglers and going ham once you've met your objectives to master it.

If you're playing EU and want some help with one, feel free to add me, Roph#2955.

Patch 2.4.1 Changes Welcome by Some, Hated by Others

Diablo III's upcoming 2.4.1 patch hasn't even landed yet, but it's already managed to raise quite a bit of controversy. Apparently, this patch won't really touch game mechanics or other essential aspects of game-play. Instead, it will focus on esthetics as the changes it will deliver have been defined as "cosmetic". Thus far, the world of Diablo III hasn't really been cosmetics-friendly. The only way players could pick up a set of wings or a special pet was by attending a Blizzard event or buying a collectors' edition of the game. All that will change now, whether for the better, remains to be seen. What's certain though is that patch 2.4.1 will unleash the mother lode of wings, critters and various outfit-bits which will cover not only the Diablo, but the entire Blizzard lore.

On the PTR, the patch is already live and players have already picked up some pretty radical items from various bosses and uber bosses. The uber version of Maghda for instance drops something called the Wings of Kokabiel, which are essentially some rather impressive-looking butterfly wings guaranteed to deliver a massive blow to the game's traditionally bleak and gloomy atmosphere, despite the fact that they do feature a skull-pattern on their backs. When something like this gets coupled with a marine helmet from Starcraft, hilarity will definitely ensue and some of the players who are more into the current atmosphere of the game will definitely be rubbed the wrong way.

Discussion regarding the patch 2.4.1 changes is obviously already underway and as predicted, some people are indeed up in arms about the coming ridiculousness. While simply not making use of the cosmetic items is always an option, one won't really be able to un-see the carnival costumes some of their peers will inevitable don.

Online Betting Tips and Advice

If you spend any time betting or playing in casino games online, then you may want to learn some ways that you can increase your odds of winning. Who doesn’t like to win, right? Here are some tips and advice to help you do exactly hat.

Choose Your Game – One of the first tips is to choose your game according to your knowledge and play style. You want to choose games that you are comfortable with when you’re playing to win. If you’re just playing to try a new game or to goof off, it’s alright to play unfamiliar games but when the goal is to win, give yourself all of the best advantages.

Know Your Strategy – It’s important to know your strategy going in if you want to play to win. You can’t get ahead in online casino gambling by just playing at random. Without strategy, the odds are always in the favor of the house.

Know Your Limits – Don’t chase after a loss. You need to know your limits and then stick with it. Betting is addicting and tempting because people don’t know how to set their limits and stick to them.

Quit While You’re Ahead – When you win some, put a bit of it away and save it, rather than pouring it back into your betting. If you win big, go ahead and quit, at least for the day. Learn when to get ahead and stay ahead. Many people will keep playing and then give back to the casino everything they won.

Also remember that it’s meant to be fun. If you’re taking it too seriously and not having fun, it might be time to take a little break. Like these tips? You can find more info here.

Demon Hunters: UE Build Guide

I thought too many people were asking the same questions, so here is a list of attributes you want from your equipment. Without a doubt, ancient gear will be best, but for a weapon, ancient is a must.
  • Weapon: ancient, 1.1 attack speed*, % damage, dex, % resource, discipline (freeze on hit if there's extra secondary slot)
  • Quiver: Dead Man's Legacy: dex, attack speed, crit chance, % resource or hatred regen, Multishot, discipline
  • UE helm: dex, Multishot, crit chance, socket
  • UE shoulder: dex, resource cost, cooldown, chill on hit
  • Neck: (mostly flexible) Hellfire, Xephirian, Julia, or Aranoch: dex/elemental damage, crit damage, crit chance, socket
  • UE glove: dex, crit damage, crit chance, resource cost, stun on hit
  • UE torso: dex, vit, hatred regen, discipline, 3 sockets
  • Bracer: Reaper's Wraps: elemental damage, dex, vit, crit chance
  • Ring: Focus: dex, crit chance, crit damage, socket
  • Belt: Witching Hour: dex, vit, IAS, crit damage
  • Ring 2: Restraint: dex, crit chance, crit damage, socket
  • UE pants: dex, vit, all res, 2 sockets, slow on hit
  • UE boots: dex, vit, movement, Multishot, immobilize on hit
  • Gems: Zei, Banes, Iceblink

One thing I don't know is whether to get area damage or vit on shoulder.
  • There are few exceptions of course. Krider, Calamity, and Windforce are viable options.

[2.4.1] New Dmg / XP numbers and what they mean for Season 6

The amount of incoming damage in Greater Rift 70 and above has been reduced.

The amount of Experience granted in Greater Rift 70 and above has been reduced.

I wanted to find out more about these changes and did some testing. Here are my thoughts on what this will mean for the upcoming Season. I also made a video where I go over the numbers and explain my thoughts in more detail. Enjoy!

Some interesting facts:
The reduced scaling starts at Tier 71, not 70.
New Dmg multiplier is 2.338% (doubling every 30 tiers) instead of 7.178% (doubling every 10 tiers).
New XP multiplier is 5% (doubling every 14.2 tiers) instead of 8% (doubling every 9 tiers).

Some numbers:
Tier 80: -37.00% Dmg, -24.55% XP
Tier 90: -60.31% Dmg, -43.07% XP
Tier 100: -75.00% Dmg, -57.05% XP
Tier 110: -84.25% Dmg, -67.59% XP
Tier 120: -90.08% Dmg, -75.55% XP
Tier 130: -93.75% Dmg, -81.55% XP
Tier 140: -96.06% Dmg, -86.08% XP
Tier 150: -97.52% Dmg, -89.50% XP

What this means for solo and group play: We can play much more offensively now, possibly dropping one or even two supports in 4man. I'm excited to see how this will change the group meta, especially if they also manage to fix the lags. This will also significantly impact solo play where stacking defensive buffs is usually not an option.

What this means for XP farming: New XP values will be significantly lower, probably around half of what people are doing now; top groups can do ~1.8t/h now and maybe 700-900b/h next patch. Top solo players can probably reach 300-400b/h and do around the same next patch. This means the divide between solo and group play will go from ~5x times more to only ~double. It also means that nonseason players will have a hard time catching up as this is the first time that we actually get less experience than during the previous season. Top paragon players will probably end up at slightly higher levels than what we have seen during season 4. This also means that Caldesann's Despair will have a slightly bigger impact and that boss runs are relatively slightly more incentivized over no boss runs, however I think that adding a little more XP to the RG kill or closing rewards would be necessary to completely rule out no boss runs (which are not really enjoyable and counterintuitive, too).
