Blizzard eventually explained that the March of the Goblins reputation tracker had appeared before its scheduled launch. Community manager filthierich announced that the responsible Goblin had been captured and the board temporarily disabled. It was a surprisingly appropriate response to a creature whose entire existence revolves around stealing things and running away.
Now the real celebrations have begun. Meat or Treat and March of the Goblins went live on October 28, 2026, alongside Patch 3.2.4, bringing increased Treasure Goblin activity, special Dungeon Shrines, encounters with the Infernal Butcher and a reputation track filled with useful rewards.
Among the prizes identified in current event guides are the Regalia of the Sacred Creed Horse Armor, the March of the Goblins Emblem and a Resplendent Spark. That last reward is especially attractive for anyone still working toward powerful Mythic equipment during Season of Hell's Legacy.
But the real star of Halloween is an old acquaintance who has been terrifying Diablo players since 1996.
Meat or Treat Brings Back Diablo's Most Unpleasant Butcher
The Butcher has been one of Diablo's most memorable monsters ever since the original game placed him inside a blood-soaked chamber beneath Tristram Cathedral. Players who opened that door without preparation received a remarkably efficient lesson in why some rooms are better left unexplored.
Diablo IV transformed him into a roaming dungeon encounter, preserving the wonderful uncertainty of his original appearance. One moment you are clearing ordinary enemies, the next an enormous demon with a cleaver has decided that your carefully planned adventure requires immediate revision.
Meat or Treat builds on that tradition with the Infernal Butcher, a burning variation of the familiar monster that can appear during the Halloween festivities.
Blizzard's October 28 announcement confirms special Shrines, increased Treasure Goblins and Infernal Butcher encounters. As in the earlier version of Meat or Treat, Dungeon Shrines can provide unexpected additional effects when activated. Some may offer welcome advantages, while others can make the dungeon considerably more dangerous.
Early player reports describe Infernal Butcher encounters inside Nightmare Dungeons. However, Blizzard has not published a complete list of possible Shrine effects or guaranteed encounter conditions for the 2026 event, so players should not assume that every Shrine produces the same result.
For Hardcore characters, that uncertainty deserves particular respect. A harmless-looking Shrine suddenly becoming the introduction to an unusually aggressive boss fight is precisely the sort of surprise that can end a character's career.
This is not the first time Blizzard has experimented with making the Butcher even more persistent. Earlier this year, Season 12 introduced the Relentless Butcher through Bloodied Sigils, allowing the creature to return after being defeated under certain conditions.
Thirty years after his original appearance, the Butcher still has the remarkable ability to make experienced Diablo players nervous. The monsters have become larger, the equipment more complicated, and the damage numbers considerably more ridiculous, but that familiar encounter remains effective.
Some traditions deserve to survive.
March of the Goblins: How to Earn the Halloween Rewards
While Meat or Treat concentrates on dangerous surprises, March of the Goblins offers a more straightforward arrangement. Treasure Goblins appear more frequently across Sanctuary, and killing them contributes reputation toward an event reward track.
To begin, travel to Kyovashad in the Fractured Peaks and find the Goblin Statue and reputation board near the central town area. Interacting with the board allows you to inspect the current rewards and monitor your progress.
The reputation system follows the familiar March of the Goblins formula. Kill Treasure Goblins, earn reputation and claim rewards as you advance. Higher reputation ranks can also improve the chance of obtaining additional Treasure Bags from subsequent Goblin encounters.
Current event guides identify the following notable rewards:
- Resplendent Spark: A valuable resource used in Mythic crafting.
- Regalia of the Sacred Creed Horse Armor: A cosmetic reward for your mount.
- March of the Goblins Emblem: A profile cosmetic associated with the event.
- Gold and crafting materials: Resources useful for equipment upgrades and general progression.
- Murmuring Obols, Gem Fragments and Runes: Additional rewards associated with the event caches.
These rewards have been identified through current event coverage and player reports. Blizzard's initial Halloween announcement did not provide a complete reward table, so the in-game board remains the best place to verify the exact prizes and requirements.
The Resplendent Spark is particularly interesting because Season 15 has made Mythic crafting an unusually important part of character progression. We previously examined how players discovered expensive methods of recycling Crafted Mythics through the Horadric Cube, demonstrating just how valuable additional Sparks can become.
Of course, this is also the season in which some players reported problems receiving Blizzard's compensation Spark. Hopefully, collecting the Halloween reward will prove a less complicated experience.
For efficient reputation farming, the sensible approach is to combine Goblin hunting with activities you already intend to complete. Nightmare Dungeons offer opportunities to investigate the special Shrines, while Goblins can also appear during other endgame activities.
Treasure Breach is another potentially attractive source of Goblin encounters, although players should remember that some Treasure Breach runs have suffered from frustrating town portal restrictions. An entire dungeon full of treasure is wonderful until your inventory fills up and returning to the Blacksmith becomes an unexpected challenge.
Players interested in combining different farming objectives can also revisit our Season 15 farming guide covering Soul Splinters, Runes and Gems. Not every Goblin-related activity necessarily awards the event's reputation, so check that your chosen activity is actually advancing the tracker before committing to a lengthy farming session.
The basic attraction is difficult to argue with. You are already killing monsters for equipment, materials and experience. March of the Goblins simply offers additional rewards for chasing the small creatures carrying enormous sacks.
And few Diablo players have ever needed much encouragement to do that.
The Goblins Arrived Early – And Blizzard Had to Send Them Home
Perhaps the most entertaining story surrounding this year's Halloween event happened before the official launch.
On October 27, players discovered that the March of the Goblins reputation board had appeared in Kyovashad. Naturally, they began farming immediately, only to discover that the tracker refused to acknowledge their efforts.
Some players reported killing numerous Treasure Goblins without earning any reputation. Others had already spent time pursuing Goblin-heavy activities before realizing that the event had not actually started.
At first, it looked like another unfortunate seasonal bug. Diablo IV has certainly had enough of those during Season of Hell's Legacy, from frustrating Prime Evil Splinter farming to unusual interactions involving the Horadric Cube.
But this time, the explanation was comparatively simple.
In an official forum response on October 27, community manager filthierich confirmed that the reputation tracker had been released earlier than intended and would not function until the event officially began. Blizzard temporarily disabled it to prevent further confusion.
The developers also announced that they had captured the Goblin responsible.
Quite how one interrogates a Treasure Goblin remains unclear, although presumably somebody has tried shaking it until a Legendary item falls out.
With the October 28 launch, the Halloween festivities are now underway. Players who farmed Goblins during the premature appearance should not assume that those kills will be credited retroactively, as Blizzard has not announced such compensation.
Several current event guides list November 4, 2026, at 7 p.m. CET as the end of the Halloween celebrations. Blizzard's initial public announcement did not specify an end time, however, so players should consult the in-game event timer before planning their final reputation farming sessions.
The timing is especially welcome for players still pursuing Season 15's more demanding rewards. We have already covered the discovery of Uber Tristram and the return of the Hellfire Torch, an elaborate endgame pursuit that can require substantial preparation and repeated farming.
March of the Goblins offers something considerably more direct. Find a Goblin, kill it, collect the loot and watch the reputation tracker advance. No hidden Cube recipe, no mysterious fountain in Tristram and hopefully no need to spend an evening wondering why your latest collection of Prime Evil Splinters refuses to cooperate.
There is something pleasingly appropriate about this Halloween celebration. On one side, the Butcher returns to pursue players through darkened dungeons. On the other, Treasure Goblins are desperately trying to escape with their stolen possessions.
One monster is chasing you. The other is being chased by you.
And somewhere between them, if the reward board behaves itself, there is a Resplendent Spark worth collecting.
