Reports began appearing after Blizzard sent the compensation through the recently added Horadric Post. Some players opened the mail and received the promised Spark normally. Others say the letter arrived without the attachment. A few report receiving neither the message nor the item at all. One Blizzard forum report even describes the Resplendent Spark disappearing from the mail before it could be claimed.
Which means Season 15 has apparently reached the stage where Blizzard is fixing the bugs caused by the bugs and may now need to investigate the reward sent because of the bugs.
Sanctuary remains efficient.
The Gift Is a Resplendent Spark
The compensation itself is actually quite generous. Blizzard is distributing a Resplendent Spark, one of Diablo IV's most valuable crafting resources. Sparks are central to Mythic crafting and have become even more important in Season 15 because the Horadric Cube offers new ways to turn carefully prepared Unique equipment into targeted Mythics.
As we recently covered in our look at Season 15's increasingly complicated Crafted Mythic system, five Sparks can be used as part of the deterministic Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe. One free Spark is therefore not simply another cache containing three Legendary gloves and some crafting materials. It represents a meaningful chunk of progress toward one of the game's most expensive upgrades.
Players who received the gift normally have reported finding it through the Horadric Post in major towns. If you have not checked the mailbox recently, it is worth doing so before assuming the compensation never arrived.
Not Everyone Is Seeing the Same Thing
The confusing part is that the rollout does not appear completely consistent.
Reports collected after the gift began arriving describe three different experiences. Some players received the message and Spark exactly as expected. Some received the apology message but no Spark. Others say nothing appeared at all.
There are also isolated cases where players claim the Spark appeared but was lost through another technical problem. That does not necessarily mean the compensation system itself is broken in every case. Mail delivery, disconnects and lost-item behavior can complicate individual reports.
What we can say is simpler: players are not all reporting the same successful delivery.
Blizzard has not yet published a detailed explanation for the differences.
This Comes After the Missing Seasonal Spark Bug
The choice of compensation is particularly appropriate because Resplendent Sparks have already been part of Season 15's problems.
Earlier in the season, players completing the seasonal reputation track discovered that the Resplendent Cache could fail to provide the Spark listed among its rewards. Blizzard fixed that issue in Hotfix 4. We covered the change in our Hotfix 4 breakdown, alongside repairs for Wirt's Lucky Coin, class quests and the infinitely enthusiastic Butcher.
That means some players who missed a Spark during progression are now opening their mailbox to receive another Spark as part of Blizzard's broader apology for the launch.
Unless, naturally, that one is missing too.
There are jokes Blizzard writes.
And then there are jokes that appear naturally through software development.
Blizzard Is Already Running a Second Make-Good Event
The mailed Spark is not Blizzard's only compensation for Season 15's rough beginning.
From September 23 through October 7, the Tree of Whispers is running Gift of the Tree. Completing Grim Favors during the event awards additional Gift of the Tree Caches, providing extra experience and loot. Blizzard explicitly introduced the event because Season of Hell's Legacy arrived later than planned.
The timing is almost poetic because Tree of Whispers cache turn-ins were themselves among the systems that malfunctioned around launch.
The Tree is therefore now giving players extra rewards because the Tree previously had trouble giving players rewards.
Diablo IV may occasionally be more self-referential than intended.
Season 15’s Launch Problems Went Well Beyond a Few Hours of Delay
The original launch delay alone was relatively short. As we covered when Season 15 finally went live, Blizzard restored the Seasonal Realm the same day. The bigger issue was the pile-up around it.
Solo Self-Found remained disabled while Blizzard continued investigating problems. Tree of Whispers reward turn-ins malfunctioned. Seasonal reputation could fail to provide its Spark. Wirt's Lucky Coin could disappear without opening Uber Tristram. Class quests became blocked. Runewords produced strange interactions. Prime Evil Powers are still failing to unlock correctly for some players even after Rank 24.
Tomorrow's Patch 3.2.2 continues the cleanup, addressing more seasonal progression, Runeword and reward bugs, although several reported problems remain outside the published fix list.
Seen against that background, a Resplendent Spark and two weeks of improved Whisper rewards make sense as a goodwill gesture.
The unfortunate part is that goodwill gifts work considerably better when everybody receives the goodwill.
Check the Horadric Post Before Assuming Yours Is Missing
There is one practical complication worth mentioning: the Horadric Post is still relatively new, and plenty of players simply do not check it regularly.
The Spark is not automatically dropped into your inventory when you log in. Players who received the compensation normally report collecting it through the in-game mail system in a major town.
So before filing a bug report, visit the Horadric Post and check whether Blizzard's message is waiting there.
If the message appears without the promised Spark, or if the mail disappears incorrectly, that is a different problem and worth documenting.
The Apology Is Actually a Good Idea
It would be easy to turn this into nothing but another joke about Blizzard bugs, but the underlying gesture is sensible.
Resplendent Sparks are valuable enough to matter without trivializing the entire Mythic economy. Gift of the Tree gives everyone an incentive to play rather than simply placing another item in a mailbox. And Blizzard has been deploying hotfixes quickly enough that several first-week problems are already gone.
Season 15 itself has also been considerably more interesting than its launch suggested. Hidden Runewords, Uber Tristram, Mefishto, Annihilus clues, cow secrets and a growing collection of Diablo history have given players more reasons to investigate Sanctuary than most recent seasons.
The problem is not that Blizzard apologized.
The problem is that Season 15 has become so thematically consistent that even the apology may require troubleshooting.
So check your Horadric Post.
There may be a Resplendent Spark waiting for you.
And if there isn't, at least Blizzard has accidentally given us the most Season 15 ending possible.
