Season 15 introduces Character Rebirth, allowing an existing Eternal character to begin a new season without being permanently deleted or replaced.
The character keeps its identity.
Its level, equipment and seasonal progress do not.
Sanctuary has discovered reincarnation.
It still requires inventory management.
Rebirth Moves Eternal Characters Into A New Season
Rebirth allows players to select an Eternal character and transfer it onto the Seasonal Realm.
The character is reset to level 1 and can then begin the new seasonal journey like a freshly created hero.
This means players can reuse characters they have already grown attached to instead of building a near-identical replacement every season.
The character is not copied.
It is converted into the seasonal version and begins again from the bottom.
Your Character Keeps Its Identity
Several personal details survive the Rebirth process.
The character keeps its:
- Name
- Class
- Appearance
- Hardcore or Softcore status
- Selected cosmetic choices
- Accumulated playtime history
That final detail is particularly useful for players who have maintained one favourite character across several years.
The game will continue tracking the character’s total playtime through multiple Rebirths.
The level returns to 1.
The evidence of what you have done with your evenings remains permanent.
Equipment Must Be Removed First
Rebirth does not carry the character’s equipped items or inventory into the new season.
Players must remove anything they want to keep before confirming the process.
That means weapons, armour, jewellery and other stored items should be moved into the Eternal stash or transferred to another Eternal character.
Anything left on the character may be lost when Rebirth is completed.
Blizzard therefore needs to make the warning extremely clear.
A seasonal reset should not accidentally become a mass salvage operation without the materials.
The Character Returns At Level 1
Rebirth does not provide a shortcut through the new season.
The character begins at level 1 and must progress through the seasonal systems normally.
Players still need to level, collect equipment, unlock seasonal rewards and rebuild their chosen setup.
The feature preserves the character’s identity rather than its power.
Your legendary hero returns.
They have forgotten every skill and misplaced all their trousers.
Hardcore Status Is Preserved
A Hardcore character remains Hardcore after Rebirth.
Players cannot use the system to convert an Eternal Hardcore hero into a safer Softcore seasonal character.
The original rule set follows the character into the new season.
This keeps the character’s history consistent and prevents Rebirth from becoming a method of bypassing realm restrictions.
Hardcore veterans can keep returning.
They simply need to survive again from level 1.
Rebirth Solves A Long-Running Seasonal Problem
Diablo 4’s seasonal structure has always required players to create new characters.
That reset is central to the game’s progression loop, but it also leaves character lists crowded with nearly identical heroes.
A player may end up with several Barbarians sharing the same appearance, build idea and increasingly compromised name.
Rebirth allows one established character to become the continuing seasonal identity.
The build changes.
The season changes.
The hero remains the same unlucky person repeatedly sent back into Hell.
The Feature Needs A Strong Confirmation Screen
Because Rebirth resets progression and removes carried equipment, the confirmation process needs to show exactly what will be lost.
The screen should list equipped items, inventory contents and any other character-specific data that will not survive.
It should also prevent Rebirth while valuable equipment remains attached unless the player confirms each warning deliberately.
A single vague message is not enough.
Diablo players have spent years training themselves to click through dialogue at dangerous speeds.
Season 15 Finally Lets Characters Have A History
Character Rebirth does not change the seasonal reset itself.
Players still return to level 1 and build their power again.
What it changes is the relationship between the player and the character doing it.
Instead of creating another disposable seasonal hero, players can continue one character’s history across multiple seasons.
That is a small change with considerable emotional value.
The character survives.
The equipment does not.
Before pressing Rebirth, empty every pocket.
