Diablo 4’s Mythic version of The Furnace is currently failing one of the basic promises attached to Mythic items.
Its Unique effect is not always rolling at maximum strength on the Patch 3.2.0 Public Test Realm.
Blizzard has acknowledged the issue on its official PTR known-issues list.
The weapon is Mythic.
The main number is still negotiating.
The Furnace Is A Returning Diablo 3 Weapon
The Furnace originally appeared in Diablo 3 as a legendary two-handed mace built around one very simple pleasure.
Hitting elite enemies considerably harder.
Season 15 brings the weapon into Diablo 4 as one of the returning Legacy Uniques inspired by equipment from earlier games in the series.
Its Diablo 4 version has been adapted to the modern item system rather than copied directly from Diablo 3.
The name remains familiar.
The current PTR behaviour is less reassuring.
The Mythic Version Should Roll At Maximum Strength
Mythic Unique items are supposed to provide certainty at the highest end of Diablo 4’s loot system.
Their normal properties roll at maximum values, removing the possibility of finding an extraordinarily rare item with disappointing secondary numbers.
Mythic Unique Charms follow the same principle.
Their standard properties arrive at maximum strength, while their Unique effects become considerably stronger than the regular versions.
The Mythic Furnace is currently breaking that expectation.
Its Unique effect can apparently appear below its intended maximum value.
A Mythic Drop Can Look Worse Than It Should
The bug creates an especially frustrating result because The Furnace can exist in both regular and Mythic quality.
A player may find the far rarer Mythic version and expect the strongest possible form of the weapon.
Instead, its defining Unique effect may roll below the intended maximum.
The item is still rare.
The purple beam still performs its ceremony.
The main attraction may arrive with adjustable seating.
This Is Not Intended Item Variation
Random affix ranges are a normal part of Diablo equipment.
Players regularly compare two copies of the same Unique and choose the one with better rolls.
Mythic quality is specifically designed to remove much of that uncertainty.
Because Blizzard has listed The Furnace issue as a known PTR problem, the lower Unique roll should not be interpreted as deliberate variation.
It is a bug rather than a new rule for Mythic Legacy Uniques.
Players Should Check The Unique Effect Carefully
PTR players testing The Furnace should not assume the Mythic label guarantees the correct value.
They should compare:
- The regular Unique version.
- Several Mythic copies obtained through PTR testing tools.
- The minimum and maximum values shown by the tooltip.
- The actual combat result produced by each version.
If multiple Mythic copies display different Unique-effect values, the bug becomes immediately visible.
If the tooltip shows the maximum while combat produces a weaker result, the underlying calculation may also require investigation.
The Bug Can Distort Damage Comparisons
The Furnace is designed around a powerful offensive effect.
A lower-than-intended roll can make the weapon look weaker than competing Mythics, class Uniques or well-crafted Legendary weapons.
Players may conclude that the returning Legacy Unique has failed to justify its rarity.
That conclusion would be unreliable while the main effect is officially broken.
The correct comparison can only happen after Blizzard ensures every Mythic copy receives its intended maximum value.
Build Guides Should Avoid Exact Rankings For Now
Early PTR tier lists often rank equipment using the numbers currently available in the client.
The Furnace bug makes that dangerous.
A tester using an incorrectly rolled version may place the weapon too low.
Another player may receive a correct or stronger copy and report substantially better performance.
Both tests can appear legitimate while using different versions of an item that should not vary in this way.
Until the issue is fixed, The Furnace belongs in the category marked:
“Potentially powerful. Awaiting functioning paperwork.”
The Regular Furnace May Still Be Working Correctly
Blizzard’s known-issues description specifically concerns the Mythic version and its failure to roll the Unique effect at maximum strength.
That does not automatically mean the normal Unique version is broken.
Its effect may still roll normally within the intended range.
Players should separate reports involving regular and Mythic copies instead of treating every Furnace as affected.
The distinction matters when comparing damage and submitting useful bug reports.
Mythic Items Need To Be Reliable
Mythic Uniques sit at the top of Diablo 4’s equipment hierarchy.
They are rare, powerful and increasingly tied to expensive crafting or upgrade systems.
Season 15’s direct Unique-to-Mythic recipe also encourages players to invest in a chosen base item before converting it.
That investment only feels worthwhile if the final Mythic behaves predictably.
A player should not spend rare materials upgrading an item and then receive a defining effect below the promised maximum.
Randomness belongs in the hunt.
It should not reappear after the game announces that randomness has ended.
The Error May Be Connected To The Legacy Upgrade
The Furnace is unusual because it is both a returning Legacy Unique and an item capable of appearing in Mythic quality.
The bug may involve how the game converts the regular Unique effect into its Mythic range.
It may instead be a simple failure to force the final value to the top of that range.
Only Blizzard can confirm the exact cause.
PTR players can still help by reporting whether the problem appears:
- On naturally dropped Mythic copies.
- On versions supplied through PTR vendors.
- After direct Unique-to-Mythic conversion.
- After relogging or changing zones.
- Before and after Masterworking.
Masterworking Should Not Be Blamed Automatically
Players may notice the incorrect value after upgrading or Masterworking the weapon.
That does not necessarily mean Masterworking caused the problem.
The base Mythic item may already have received the wrong Unique roll before any investment occurred.
Testing an untouched copy first will help isolate the source.
Otherwise, the Blacksmith may be accused of a crime committed during item generation.
The Tooltip Needs To Communicate Mythic Rules
Diablo 4 should make the difference between regular and Mythic versions immediately clear.
A Mythic item tooltip could explicitly mark properties that are locked to maximum values.
That would help players identify bugs and understand why the rarer version is special.
It would also prevent confusion when a Mythic item displays a range rather than a fixed final number.
If maximum power is guaranteed, the interface should not require players to consult external patch notes to confirm it.
This Is Exactly Why The PTR Exists
The Furnace issue is frustrating, but it has appeared before Season 15 reaches the live servers.
That is the purpose of a Public Test Realm.
Players can identify items that do not follow their own quality rules, and Blizzard can correct them before permanent characters begin farming or crafting those items.
If this bug reached the live game, players could spend valuable materials creating a Mythic weapon that was weaker than advertised.
Finding it now is considerably cheaper.
The repair bill belongs to the test realm.
Do Not Salvage The Mythic Furnace Based On Its Current Roll
PTR progress will not transfer to the live game, but players should still avoid dismissing The Furnace based on an incorrect copy.
The weapon’s true Season 15 value cannot be judged until its Mythic effect consistently reaches the intended maximum.
It may become a powerful elite-killing option.
It may remain situational.
It may spend another season being admired mainly for having an excellent name.
The current bug prevents a fair answer.
The Rarest Version Should Also Be The Best Version
The entire appeal of a Mythic Legacy Unique is straightforward.
It takes a famous item from Diablo’s past and presents its strongest modern form.
The Furnace currently achieves the first part.
The second part depends on which copy the PTR produces.
Blizzard has acknowledged the problem, so players should expect the Unique effect to be corrected before the finished Season 15 release.
Until then, The Furnace remains Mythic in name, appearance and rarity.
Its main number is still waiting for the promotion.
