Diablo 4 Buffs Sorcerer’s Numbers — Players Want Blizzard to Fix the Skills Instead

There is an old Diablo balancing trick.

If a class is struggling, make the number bigger.

Season 15 is certainly making one of the Sorcerer's numbers bigger.

On the 3.2.0 PTR, Blizzard has increased the class's core stat scalar from 1.25 to 1.625, meaning every 10 points of Intelligence now provides considerably more damage than before.

On paper, that sounds excellent.

Unfortunately, some Sorcerer players are asking a slightly different question:

What exactly are we supposed to use all that extra damage on?

Sorcerer Gets a Significant Global Buff

The Intelligence change is not small.

Blizzard says Sorcerers will now receive 1.625% damage per 10 Intelligence instead of 1.25%.

The developers describe the core stat scalar as a way of adjusting for broader differences between classes.

That should raise Sorcerer damage across a large part of the class rather than buffing one particular build.

There are also several direct improvements.

Blue Rose's damage multiplier jumps from 40–60% to 80–100%.

Shivering Aspect rises from 60–90% to 90–120%.

Frozen Wake is stronger.

Tirahj's Uncanny Insight gains a new 60% Conjuration damage multiplier on its two-piece bonus, while its five-piece damage bonus increases from 175% to 200%.

Those are meaningful buffs.

But they arrive beside some equally meaningful reductions.

Several Familiar Tools Are Being Cut Back

The Frostball version of Fireball no longer requires Frozen enemies to create Ice Spikes, which sounds useful.

Then you reach the next lines.

The number of Ice Spikes falls from five to three.

Their damage drops from 170% to 85%.

Enchantment Master also takes a substantial hit, with its damage bonus reduced from 100% to 60%. Its additional reward for using Enchantments from different elements has been removed entirely.

Elemental Constellation drops from 80–120% increased damage to 45–60%.

Meanwhile, the Pyromaniac Glyph's maximum damage bonus falls from 18% to 15%.

This does not automatically mean Sorcerer will be weak.

PTR arithmetic rarely survives first contact with thousands of players and several million monsters.

But it helps explain why the reaction has been complicated.

Players Want More Than Another Firewall Meta

A large Sorcerer discussion on Blizzard's forums has spent the PTR questioning whether Season 15 will actually change which builds feel worth playing.

Firewall remains a particular point of irritation.

The problem is not that Firewall exists or that people enjoy playing it.

The problem is when a class famous for Fireball, Frozen Orb, Chain Lightning, Meteor, Blizzard, Hydra and Ball Lightning somehow feels funnelled toward the same small collection of dominant setups.

Sorcerer should be the class where choosing an element feels slightly irresponsible because all three look tempting.

It should not feel like choosing between the meta build and several decorative alternatives.

The PTR Is Doing Some of What Players Asked For

It is worth being fair to Blizzard.

Ball Lightning's Orbital variant can now be cast while moving.

Cold-focused tools are receiving buffs.

Conjurations get direct support through Tirahj's Uncanny Insight.

And increasing the Intelligence scalar gives Blizzard a broad lever for improving the class without attaching another enormous multiplier to one specific Aspect.

Those are sensible changes.

The concern is whether they are enough to create genuinely different competitive builds rather than simply moving the numbers around underneath the existing hierarchy.

A Sorcerer Should Have Too Many Good Ideas

This is ultimately less about whether Sorcerer finishes Season 15 as the third-best class, fifth-best class or capable of deleting a boss 1.7 seconds slower than somebody on YouTube.

It is about fantasy.

A Sorcerer has an entire catalogue of ways to make monsters regret entering the room.

Fire.

Ice.

Lightning.

Conjurations.

Orbs.

Meteors.

Things that explode because apparently normal weather was not dramatic enough.

If Season 15 makes the class stronger, good.

But the better outcome would be making players stare at the skill tree and struggle to decide what they want to play.

Not because nothing works.

Because too many things do.
