Diablo 4 Season 15 Buffs Torment XP, Legendary Drops and Endgame Caches

Diablo IV Season 15 is not only adding Waking Nightmares, returning bosses and another alarming quantity of things to put inside the Horadric Cube. Blizzard has also quietly made the ordinary act of progressing through Torment considerably more rewarding. Legendary Item drop rates are increasing across Torment I through Torment V, the highest Torment levels now grant substantially more bonus experience, and several Whisper Caches are receiving rewards that are two, three or even five times larger than before. Add stronger experience rewards from The Pit and War Plans, and Season of Hell's Legacy contains one of the broadest progression buffs hidden inside its enormous patch notes.

The changes appear throughout Blizzard's final Season of Hell's Legacy update notes, rather than being presented as one giant progression overhaul. Look at them together, however, and the direction becomes fairly obvious. Blizzard wants the early Torment climb to provide more useful equipment, the highest Torment levels to pay considerably more experience, and routine activities such as Whispers to stop handing out rewards that feel as though they were packed during a previous economic era.

Torment X, XI and XII Are Getting Much More Experience

The clearest numbers are attached to Torment difficulty itself. Blizzard is increasing the bonus experience granted by the top three Torment levels:

  • Torment X: 1200% bonus XP becomes 1300%
  • Torment XI: 1300% bonus XP becomes 1500%
  • Torment XII: 1400% bonus XP becomes 1700%

Torment XII receives the largest increase, jumping by 300 percentage points. That is a much more meaningful difference between the final world difficulty and the tiers immediately below it, particularly for characters still pushing Paragon progression or grinding Seasonal Ranks.

The timing is interesting because we recently looked at the community argument over whether Torment XII is supposed to be comfortable farming content or an aspirational endgame difficulty. Season 15 does not settle that philosophical dispute, but it does make Blizzard's reward philosophy slightly clearer. If you can comfortably survive Torment XII, the game now gives you a stronger reason to stay there.

Higher difficulty should hurt more.

It should probably also pay more.

Otherwise Torment XII becomes an elaborate way to spend longer killing the same monster for approximately the same handful of trousers.

Legendary Drops Are Increasing in Torment I Through V

The other major change targets the opposite end of Torment progression. Blizzard is increasing Legendary Item drop rates in Torment I through Torment V. Torment VI and above remain unchanged.

That split is deliberate. Blizzard says the goal is to improve Legendary drops from both enemies and rewards during the early stages of Torment progression, reducing the need for players to take random Legendary items to the Horadric Cube simply to complete important parts of the Codex of Power.

That is an important distinction. This is not a blanket loot explosion across the entire endgame. Players farming Torment X or XII should not expect ordinary Legendary rain to suddenly double. Blizzard is specifically smoothing out the period where a fresh endgame character is still assembling Aspects and trying to transform a functional pile of equipment into an actual build.

It also addresses one of the stranger side effects of Diablo IV's increasingly elaborate crafting game. We have previously looked at how finding equipment can sometimes feel like the beginning of a crafting assignment rather than the reward itself. More natural Legendary drops during early Torment means players should need slightly less Cube intervention just to establish the basics.

Whisper Gold Caches Are Going From 35 Million to Around 100 Million

The Tree of Whispers may be the biggest winner in the entire patch.

Gold Caches are receiving an increase of roughly three times their previous value. Blizzard gives Torment XII as its example: a Gold Cache that previously awarded around 35 million Gold should now provide approximately 100 million.

That is not a subtle increase.

It turns a cache that could feel like background income into something players may actually choose deliberately when the Tree presents its rewards.

Whispers have gradually become more connected to Diablo IV's wider endgame, which is something we discussed when Gift of the Tree temporarily made Whisper farming considerably more attractive during Season 14. Season 15 now improves the permanent baseline rather than relying on an event to make the Tree feel generous.

Gem Caches Are Basically Doubling

Gem Caches are also receiving a significant upgrade. Blizzard says their Gem Fragment rewards are being approximately doubled.

They will additionally provide one Royal or Grand Gem depending on difficulty, replacing the previous Flawless Gem reward. That becomes more valuable at higher Torment levels, particularly now that Blizzard has also significantly increased Gem Fragment drops from Elite enemies in Torment X and above and raised the chance for those Elites to drop random Royal Gems.

Gem economy improvements are not generally the sort of thing that produces dramatic launch trailers. They are, however, exactly the sort of thing players notice after thirty hours when a system either flows naturally or repeatedly sends them back to farming materials they assumed they had finished worrying about.

Sanctuary has enough economic crises already.

Gems do not need their own.

Cube Material Caches Are Getting Two to Three Times More Materials

Season 15 also significantly increases rewards from Cube Materials Caches. Blizzard says these will provide approximately two to three times more Horadric Cube materials.

That is particularly important because the Horadric Cube is no longer a small side system. It now sits at the center of item manipulation, Unique transformations and Diablo IV's increasingly controlled Mythic chase. Season 15 is retaining the direct Unique-to-Mythic conversion we covered in our look at Blizzard's post-PTR changes to Iconic Mythics and Mythic crafting, so demand for Cube materials is not exactly preparing to disappear.

The patch also adjusts the Cube's material drop weighting. Pure Primordial Dust becomes less dominant because baseline Legendary drops are increasing, while higher-quality Dust types become more common as difficulty rises.

That gives difficulty progression another small reward gradient instead of treating every Torment tier as the same crafting economy with larger enemy health bars.

Salvage Caches Are Getting Two to Three Times More Too

Salvage Caches receive the same broad treatment. Blizzard is increasing all salvage materials from these caches by approximately two to three times, with Forgotten Souls receiving an even larger increase at higher Torment levels.

Forgotten Souls remain one of those materials that can look abundant until a player begins seriously rerolling and upgrading endgame gear, at which point several hundred of them can vanish with the efficiency of a Rogue leaving town after discovering the Blacksmith has started asking questions.

Blizzard is simultaneously lowering several Forgotten Soul crafting costs. Royal Gems drop from 30 Souls to 10, Grand Gems fall from 300 to 50, and enchanting an Ancestral item drops from 25 Forgotten Souls to 10.

So Season 15 is attacking that resource pressure from both directions.

More Souls coming in.

Fewer Souls going out.

Key Caches Are Becoming Much More Valuable

Key Caches may have received the most interesting overall redesign. They now provide twice as many random Tributes and five times as much Sigil Dust.

They also gain a small chance to contain a Mephisto Key or Trace of Echoes, which we covered separately because it becomes especially important now that Echo of Mephisto guarantees a Mythic drop in Season 15.

This is a good example of why the cache changes matter beyond simply making numbers bigger. Better Key Caches feed directly into other endgame activities. A Whisper reward can produce Tributes, Sigil Dust or access to rare content, which then produces another layer of rewards.

That creates a loop rather than a collection of unrelated boxes.

The Pit Is Paying More XP Too

The Torment buffs are not the only experience changes. Blizzard is also increasing bonus XP from higher Pit tiers.

The example provided in the patch notes is enormous. Pit Tier 150 increases from 1800% bonus experience to 2700%.

The Choron's Soul Pit node is also receiving double experience from Progress Orbs.

Again, this reinforces the idea that pushing genuinely difficult content should come with a noticeable progression reward. The Pit is already where players measure the upper limits of builds, and we have seen plenty of discussion around high-tier Pit enemies occasionally feeling more threatening than the actual boss waiting at the end. If players are going to spend longer fighting those enemies, a stronger XP curve makes the effort easier to defend.

War Plans Experience Is Increasing Heavily With Torment

War Plans receive another progression buff on top of becoming account-wide within compatible partitions.

Blizzard says experience rewards from War Plans have been increased and will now scale heavily with Torment levels. In Torment X and above, completing any War Plans node now grants four baseline Experience Orbs instead of two, regardless of its reward type or rarity.

Magic, Rare, Legendary and Mythic Experience nodes then receive another doubling of their Experience Orb rewards.

That makes the system more attractive for actual character progression instead of treating War Plans purely as a route planner for loot. Combined with the Season 15 change making War Plans progression account-wide, it is a substantial improvement to a feature that spent much of Season 14 producing arguments about whether anyone should bother repeating it on an alt.

Whisper Caches Are Giving More Experience Too

Even ordinary Whisper turn-ins are joining the XP increase. Whisper Caches previously provided between three and five Experience Orbs. They now provide four to six, with another two to four Experience Orbs added in Torment X and above.

That means a high-Torment Whisper turn-in now simultaneously offers improved experience and dramatically stronger cache rewards.

Complete activities.

Earn Grim Favors.

Turn them in.

Receive more XP, more gold, more gems, more materials or more keys depending on the cache.

It is not a glamorous redesign, but it makes one of Diablo IV's most universal gameplay loops considerably healthier.

Season 15 Is Finally Making the Difficulty Ladder Pay Properly

The interesting thing about these changes is how neatly they divide across the progression curve.

At lower Torment levels, players receive more Legendaries so builds can come together faster.

At high Torment levels, players receive substantially more experience.

Whispers give better materials and gold.

The Pit pays more for pushing.

War Plans pay more as difficulty rises.

Elite monsters at Torment X and above provide more valuable gem rewards.

And the boss economy is simultaneously becoming more generous, with better Mythic rates and more guaranteed high-end reward structures appearing at the top of the game.

That is a healthier progression model than simply increasing monster health every time the Roman numeral changes.

More Loot Does Not Automatically Mean Better Loot

There is one important caveat.

Diablo IV has already learned that simply increasing the number of items falling onto the ground does not automatically improve the loot chase. We saw that in Season 14, when a major loot patch clearly improved drop rates without solving every problem surrounding endgame progression.

Legendary quantity matters most while a character is still completing the Codex and assembling a build. Once that character reaches higher Torment tiers, item quality, useful affixes, Mythics and targeted rewards become much more important than another twenty orange beams.

Blizzard appears aware of that distinction here.

That is why ordinary Legendary rates are specifically being increased only in Torment I through V.

The top end receives experience, better Mythic targeting, stronger materials and improved activity rewards instead.

Different problems.

Different solutions.

Season 15's Quietest Changes May Be Some of Its Most Important

Waking Nightmares and nearly twenty returning bosses will understandably dominate the Season 15 conversation. Fighting Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral is rather easier to put in a trailer than announcing that a Cube Materials Cache now contains roughly three times as much crafting dust.

But these are the changes players interact with every night.

How quickly a new character finds the Aspects it needs.

Whether Torment XII feels worth farming.

Whether a Whisper Cache is exciting or administrative.

Whether high Pit tiers reward the extra effort.

Whether fifty million missing gold means another farming session.

Season of Hell's Legacy is changing all of those numbers at once.

Torment is still going to hurt.

At least now it is paying overtime.
