Diablo Immortal Crashes on iOS 27.2 – Blizzard Confirms Login Bug

Diablo Immortal players have faced some formidable enemies over the years, but this week's most dangerous opponent appears to be Apple's latest operating system. Following the release of iOS 27.2 on October 26, players have reported that Diablo Immortal crashes when they attempt to enter the game. For some, the login screen is as far as the adventure goes.

Blizzard has now confirmed the problem and is working on a fix. In an official announcement published October 27, community manager jadai acknowledged that a software change in iOS 27.2 is interfering with Diablo Immortal's login system. The developer's advice is unusually straightforward: players who have not installed the update should avoid doing so until a compatible fix is available.

Unfortunately, that advice comes too late for those who have already updated. Reports from iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 owners describe the game closing immediately after login or when entering the character's world. And on October 28, Blizzard confirmed that it was also investigating similar crashes reported by iPadOS users.

For a game built around daily activities, clan commitments and limited-time rewards, being unable to log in is considerably more troublesome than an ordinary gameplay bug.

Players Reported the Crash Weeks Before iOS 27.2 Launched

Perhaps the most interesting detail is that this problem did not begin with the public release of iOS 27.2.

On September 17, an iPhone 17 Pro Max owner reported that Diablo Immortal would launch normally but crash as soon as the character entered the game world while running the first iOS 27.2 beta. The player subsequently tested another beta release alongside Diablo Immortal 5.1.2 and reported that neither update resolved the problem.

The original September bug report remained active into October, with additional players describing similar crashes.

When Apple's public update arrived on October 26, the problem became much harder to ignore. A player using an iPhone 18 Pro Max reported that even reinstalling Diablo Immortal failed to restore access. Others described the same behavior on iPhone 17 devices.

Blizzard's October 27 announcement finally confirmed the compatibility issue. The following evening, jadai also acknowledged increased reports involving iPadOS, stating that the team was examining both platforms.

The obvious question is why a problem reported during beta testing remained unresolved when the public operating system arrived. Blizzard has not provided a detailed explanation of the delay, and it would be premature to assign responsibility for the underlying software conflict without additional technical information.

What is clear is that players had been reporting this particular failure for several weeks.

Another Apple Compatibility Problem for Diablo Immortal

The timing is unfortunate because Diablo Immortal has already experienced several technical complications on Apple hardware this year.

Back in August, Blizzard began distributing its major engine upgrade, which promised improved lighting and visual effects. Soon afterward, some iPhone players reported interface glitches, black screens and overheating.

Those reports were followed by additional complaints involving iPhone 17 temperatures and battery drain.

There is no confirmed evidence connecting those earlier graphical problems to the current iOS 27.2 login failure. Blizzard has identified an operating system compatibility issue involving login, not a confirmed recurrence of the previous engine problems.

Nevertheless, the situation illustrates the difficulty of maintaining an enormous online action RPG across constantly changing mobile devices and operating systems.

A graphical glitch may be irritating. A particular Legendary Essence failing to activate may ruin a carefully prepared build. But a game that crashes before character entry presents a rather more fundamental obstacle.

Even the most enthusiastic Diablo player cannot farm better equipment from the iPhone home screen.

What Players Can Do While Waiting for a Fix

For anyone who has not updated to iOS 27.2, Blizzard recommends postponing the installation until a fix is available. Players should also consider checking automatic operating system updates on devices they use primarily for Diablo Immortal, while weighing the security implications of delaying system updates.

If you have already installed iOS 27.2 and cannot enter the game, there is currently no officially confirmed user-side workaround. Several players report that reinstalling the application or repairing the client has not helped, so repeatedly downloading the game's substantial files may accomplish very little.

The safest approach is to monitor Blizzard's official announcement and check for a future client update. Players with access to another compatible device may also be able to continue using their existing Battle.net-linked characters.

Blizzard has not announced a release date for the fix, nor has it confirmed compensation for missed daily activities or event rewards.

That last point matters because Diablo Immortal is currently running several time-limited activities. As explained in our Halloween Patch 5.1.2 overview, Hallows Phantom runs until November 11, while the Long March reward campaign includes weekly objectives and valuable progression items.

Players are also preparing for Challenge Rift Season 21 on November 2, when the maximum floor increases to 950 and existing floors become more difficult. Losing access during the final days of preparation is hardly ideal.

For now, the important distinction is between a confirmed problem and an available solution. Blizzard has acknowledged the iOS 27.2 login failure and is investigating the additional iPadOS reports. But until a working fix is distributed, affected players remain dependent on another supported device or a future update.

Sanctuary has survived the Prime Evils, countless demonic invasions and four years of increasingly complicated equipment systems.

At the moment, however, some of its heroes cannot get past the login screen.

Update – October 29, 2026: Blizzard has confirmed the iOS 27.2 compatibility issue and acknowledged reports affecting iPadOS. No official fix release date has been announced. Players should consult Blizzard's official forum announcement for the latest information.
