Diablo IV players are once again reporting problems with the Sigil of Tal Rasha during The Initiate quest in Lord of Hatred. After clearing the encounter, the sigil appears but cannot be collected, leaving players unable to continue the campaign.
The particularly frustrating detail? Blizzard already released a fix for a Tal Rasha progression blocker on May 26, 2026. Yet new complaints appeared on October 29 and November 2, followed by a player-confirmed workaround on November 4.
Six months later, the ancient Horadrim apparently still have a few security measures nobody knows how to disable.
Diablo 4's Tal Rasha Quest Bug Survives an Earlier Patch
The problem occurs inside The First Vault during The Initiate, where players must recover the Sigil of Tal Rasha to advance the Lord of Hatred storyline. The intended sequence is straightforward: clear the encounter, wait for the objective to update and collect the sigil.
Instead, some players find themselves standing beside an unresponsive pyramid-shaped object. The monsters are dead, the room is quiet, and the campaign refuses to move forward.
Reports first appeared in late April, shortly after Lord of Hatred launched. In the original Diablo IV bug report, players described being unable to interact with the sigil despite completing the encounter. Some managed to progress by restarting the game, while others remained stuck after repeated attempts.
Blizzard addressed one specific cause in Patch 3.0.3 on May 26. According to the official notes, interacting with the Sigil of Tal Rasha before the quest objective updated could prevent progression.
The patch was intended to correct that behavior. Unfortunately, the symptoms have not disappeared entirely.
On October 29, two players reported that leaving the area, restarting the game and clearing the enemies had failed to resolve the problem. Both subsequently found success by completing The Initiate without using a Town Portal before collecting the sigil.
On November 2, a PlayStation 5 player reported being unable to interact with the same object. Another player confirmed on November 4 that avoiding teleportation had worked.
That gives us an important distinction. Blizzard's May fix addressed a documented interaction-timing problem. The newer reports demonstrate similar symptoms, but there is no confirmation that the underlying technical cause is identical.
It could be a regression, a separate quest-state problem or another interaction involving teleportation. Until Blizzard explains the latest reports, claiming that the original bug has definitively returned would be premature.
What we do know is that some players are still having difficulty completing a mandatory campaign objective.
How to Get Past the Sigil of Tal Rasha Bug
Fortunately, the community has identified a workaround that appears considerably more promising than repeatedly clicking the same unresponsive object.
The key is to avoid using a Town Portal during the affected quest section.
In the earlier Tal Rasha discussion, players also reported that allowing the encounter and Tyrael's dialogue to finish before interacting with the sigil helped prevent the issue.
If your quest is stuck, try the following:
- Log out and restart Diablo IV. This may reset the affected section of The Initiate without requiring you to restart the entire campaign.
- Return to The First Vault. If the game provides a quest portal after logging back in, use it to resume the affected section.
- Avoid Town Portal travel. Do not teleport back to town during the encounter before collecting the sigil.
- Clear the encounter completely. Defeat the enemies, allow Tyrael's dialogue to finish and wait for the quest objective to update.
- Collect the sigil before leaving. Only return to town after the quest has successfully advanced.
One distinction is worth emphasizing: the quest portal that appears when resuming The First Vault is not the same as manually using Town Portal to interrupt the encounter.
This method is based on community reports, not an official Blizzard workaround. Multiple players have reported success, including one on November 4, but there is no guarantee it will work for everyone.
That limitation matters because Diablo IV has accumulated a surprisingly varied history of progression problems. We covered the original Lord of Hatred launch issues, followed by The Scales of History's missing-elixir problem, which Blizzard subsequently addressed in the same May patch.
More recently, players have reported problems with the Warlock's Belly of the Beast quest and the Resounding Scream progression blocker, where an inaccessible interaction could prevent access to Echoing Hatred.
These are separate bugs, not evidence of one shared technical failure. But they demonstrate why quest progression problems deserve attention even when only a portion of the player base encounters them.
A missing tooltip is irritating. A campaign objective that refuses to register can stop the adventure altogether.
As of November 5, we have found no new Blizzard statement explaining the latest Tal Rasha reports or confirming an additional fix.
For affected players, avoiding Town Portal travel and allowing the encounter to finish completely remains the most promising community-discovered approach.
There is something wonderfully appropriate about Tal Rasha remaining troublesome after all these years. The man spent an extraordinary amount of effort keeping Baal imprisoned, and apparently his magical possessions have inherited the same reluctance to move.
Unfortunately, no amount of damage per second will help when the final boss is an interaction prompt.
